Introduction

The National Archives of India has been imparting training in the field of Archival studies since 1941. The training programme was institutionalized with the establishment of Institute of Archival Training in 1976. Apart from the regular training programme, correspondence course was introduced in 1978 for the benefit of the members of staff working in different offices of the Central and State governments. Various changes were introduced in 1980 under the restructuring of National Archives of India. The institute was renamed the School of Archival Studies, and a Board of Studies, to advise on the course curricula and training structure, was constituted. On the recommendation of the Board of Studies, however, the correspondence course was discontinued.

The School of Archival Studies at professional level is conducting a One Year Diploma Course in Archives and Records Management and short term certificate courses in Archives Management, Records Management, Reprography and Care and Conservation of Records and at sub professional level. Servicing and Repair of Records. The School caters to the needs of students not only from India but from countries in South Asia and Africa region.
